Founded in 1866, Albert Goodman has over 150 years of heritage as accountants in Somerset and Dorset. Albert Goodman has approximately 275 people in offices in Taunton, Bristol, Chard, Weston-Super-Mare, Weymouth, and Yeovil. Employees all share the same aim – “to be the firm that contributes most to our clients’ success”.
Albert Goodman offers a full range of tax, accounting, audit, and business advisory services, as well as having niche management information systems, corporate finance, and valuations expertise. Their specialist sectors include academies, the care sector, charities, farms and estates, medical, and solicitors.
We asked Sophie Parkhouse, Partner at Albert Goodman, about the major challenges that led staff to look for a solution like First Corporate’s cloud-based company secretarial software, FirstOrder. Sophie remarked that the team required software that would allow them to manage deadlines and collate all the companies whom they provide company secretarial services for, all in one place.
The team were in the market for software that would enable them to gain efficiencies in the production of documents, such as dividend vouchers and minutes, and to have a one-firm approach to these documents. Sophie stated that “access to an online filing portal for financial statements and forms” was also important.

After waiting approximately 12-24 months for the popularity of online filing to increase, Albert Goodman signed up to First Corporate’s company secretarial software, FirstOrder.
Why FirstOrder? Sophie stated that Albert Goodman had a pre-existing relationship with First Corporate, having used First Corporate for incorporations and other related services for a while. “Familiarity with the level of service with First Corporate was a key factor” for the team at Albert Goodman, in addition to the fact that their accounts software package did not enable some of the features they required, provided by FirstOrder.
Implementation went very well
When asked about the team at Albert Goodman’s experience implementing FirstOrder, Sophie commented that “the first upload of our data into the system went very well, and subsequent onboarding of additional offices has also run very smoothly.”
Within Albert Goodman, portfolio holders, accounts preparation staff, and administrative staff now use FirstOrder regularly. Insolvency staff, IT, and compliance staff also use FirstOrder, albeit less frequently.
FirstOrder has helped solve the challenges faced at Albert Goodman. Sophie shared that “everyone is able to view the same information, and can easily see which forms have already been submitted by other team members.” The CSV export function enables the team at Albert Goodman to export large datasets and analyse them quickly, to allow for a review of information held, and whether it is up to date.
When asked how FirstOrder has impacted the team’s day-to-day life, Sophie said that FirstOrder allows staff at Albert Goodman to maintain a “continuity of service” and has helped to create “a one-firm approach to various tasks.” All members of staff can access company information in one place, as well as details regarding recent updates made to the information. Sophie went on to state that “deadline reminders are also utilised and act as a good reminder to staff on company filing needs.”
“It is very quick and easy to use, as it allows you to prepare and file Companies House forms from one place, whilst updating the various parts of the database at the same time” Sophie shared when we asked her what she liked most about FirstOrder. “Knowing that the information feeds through to the various registers and the filing centre can ensure that forms are not omitted” she continued.
